Summer 2002 Pre-Trip Assignment

Musk OxenThis will get you thinking about field ecology in the Arctic!

Your assignment is to find a field technique in ecology that you can demonstrate to the rest of the class while we are in the field. This will be one way in which you contribute to the seminar setting in which we conduct the course.

The sampling technique you investigate for this assignment should be an interesting but simple technique that does not need much or any additional equipment. Lightweight, inexpensive equipment is best. If there is some equipment you need consult with the staff to see if it is something we may already be bringing.

You should consult reference material and/or a faculty member and learn about a data-collection technique.

Write up a 1-2 page or description and include 1) a description of the technique, 2) references, and 3) a list of equipment you need.

Send this to Dr. Gould no later than May 20th and bring a copy with you to the field. On the trip you will be asked to share your technique with the class. If you are doing any independent research this assignment may link directly to that.
