How to Use the Seminar Schedule
|
This schedule and seminar outline are designed to let you know what we will be doing at various points during the course. Some of this will change a little as we make accomadations for the weather and the landscape.
If you click on the seminar title you will find a brief description of the seminar and what we hope to accomplish by presenting that particular material. The overview/lecture will usually be presented in the morning prior to lunch.
The other categories are as follows:
- Field Activity: We will observe or collect some type of data from the local area. The field activities are designed to be hands-on and will require us to be out collecting plants, digging soil pits or counting Peregrine Falcon nest sites in a nearby canyon.
- Required Reading: These readings will include a portion of the text book and two other papers from the current scientific literature. These readings should be done prior to the seminar and multiple copies of the papers will be included in the library we bring with us. If you can do some of these before the trip it is to your advantage but that is not required.
- Additional Reading: These will be papers that you could find at your library and would help establish a strong background for the topics you are particularly interested in. Some of them will be included in the library and some will not. If you find a topic that really grabs you then we could provide you with a more extensive reading list.
- Field Resources: This is usually a list of the equipment we will use for a certain seminar. It may also be a list of specific landforms we need to be around as with the Periglacial Landform seminar.
