Mara River

Northwest Territories, Canada

Wolf

The Mara River flows northward through the Central Canadian Arctic and empties into the Burnside River about 50 km up the Burnside from Bathurst Inlet on the Arctic Ocean. It is a mid-sized river, not frequently travelled, and quite beautiful. In recent years (mid 90s) a portion of the Bathurst Caribou herd has been calving near the junction of the Mara and Burnside Rivers. The area has several interesting Inuit heritage (archaeological) sites, and good populations of muskox and wolves.

Eagle Nest

A very large golden eagle nest along the Mara River.

Air Tindi Landing

A twin otter takes off from a gravel bar along the Mara River.
